Remembrance is a textile series that weaves together Palestinian embroidery and the native flora of Palestine to honor the fragile continuities of land, lineage, and healing. The work draws upon the ancestral knowledge of herbal medicine—a wisdom passed down through generations that has nourished, sustained, and resisted erasure. Each stitch is both a gesture of care and an act of defiance, carrying forward the breath of those who tended the soil under immense pressure and violence.

Palestinian plants—za‘atar, sumac, rue, olive, mallow—are not passive elements of landscape. They are witnesses, healers, and carriers of ancestral knowledge passed down through cultivation, gathering, medicine, and ritual. I discovered that the systematic uprooting and destruction of Palestinian flora was not incidental; it forms part of a broader project of erasure and domination, severing native people from land, livelihood, and inherited ecological memory.

By embedding these plants within embroidered motifs from each region of historic Palestine, the series becomes a living archive.
